A New Horizon

A New Horizon

You are casting a new horizon
along a path I've yet to follow
You are taking me to uncharted waters
and the uncertainty of tomorrow!
I am trusting You with my forever,
since forever was created by You,
and I'm relying on Your infinite wisdom
to show me what it is I must do!
I want to please You with my words
I want to please You with my heart
I want to please You with my actions
and make each day become a part
of the tomorrows You planned for me
when I was but a sparkle in Your hand!
Teach me to number all of my days
Help me to begin to understand
the precious worth of each moment
the value of every breath
the endlessness of life itself
and Your Victory over death!

Wedding Day Poem

Here is a copy of the poem I read to my son Don, and his wife Elise on their wedding day, September 27, 2008.

To Don and Elise on Your Wedding Day
September 27, 2009

Elise and Don, all your friends and family
are here together before God with you.
We are here to see your dreams become reality
as God makes one family from you two.

With sacred oath and eternal promise
You pledge your love to one another,
Becoming foremost and forever husband and wife,
more than son and daughter, sister and brother.

A lifetime of adventures will be yours,
As You follow God’s path for you,
And no matter what blessings or heartbreaks occur
His love and peace will be there too.

We pray days of many blessings
Even when disappointments arise
We pray for strength and endless hope
And for joy that reaches beyond the skies.

We pray for faith beyond all reason
For peace and love to fill up your hearts
We pray for encouragement from each other
So that nothing on earth can tear you apart.

Always remember how you feel today
And build on the joyful memories you share
When you look into each others’ eyes,
Cherish the love that shines from there.

Don’t be afraid to believe in forever,
For it is a choice you make each day
Grow and protect your love for each other
In all you do and each word you say.

Be sure to keep on having fun,
And continue to laugh a lot together.
Create a beautiful marriage, becoming one
Hand in hand with God forever.

All of us love you and we are so very proud
And joyfully celebrate the love you share
When you need us, we’ll always cheer you on
You can be certain we will always be there

To offer you a helping hand
Or lend a caring ear,
As you first turn to one another’s loving heart
And know that your Heavenly Father is always near.

Love takes courage and sacrifice,
Its fruit is a lifetime of wonder and joy
It is the greatest of all gifts God has given us
All life and love He has given us to live and enjoy!

Love from your parents, family and friends

Here is a poem I am going to give my son that I wrote about him. He is getting married on Saturday:

To Our Son, Don, with our love

On the day you were born
I looked into your eyes
And I could see who God made you to be
You were your own little man
With an angelic face
--Hey, you looked quite a bit like ME!

From that day on
You have become more and more
Of that person of God’s design
It’s been such a blessing to know you are His
And not only Dad’s and mine!

Because, as imperfect as all parents are,
You embrace perfection in our Heavenly Father
You’ve allowed Him to make you into the man that you are
And He will take you farther and farther.

We are so honored that you are our son
Your faith and love bless us every day.
Live all of your days to the glory of God,
And He will guide you all of your way.

We are here for you always, for both you and Elise,
In our prayers you both always will be
As you start your lives together as man and wife
And become your own special family!

Why Write?

Why Write?
I have asked myself that question many times over the years. I know God has given me a gift for expressing my heart in the written word, but how does He want me to use that gift? Why would what I have to say be of interest or value? The conclusion I have reached through prayer and consideration is that my words only have value if the life I live reflects the love of God and the power of His Spirit working change in me. Therefore, I pray that He will guide me through each day as His child, as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and finally as a writer. To God be the glory!
